Sierra and Hold Shelf

After finishing the processing in ILLiad for Borrowing RECEIVES, records need to be created in Sierra. Once records are created we can put them on the hold shelf at Circulation for the patrons to easily pick up and check out.

Instructions

  1. Open Sierra and set Function to Check Out: 

    1. Scan the barcode on the library card to bring up ILS account to create records for Borrowing Receives

    2. Type in a little "b" and then scan the TN barcode on the book band 

      1. multiple volumes will need a special barcode for each additional volume 

        1. tape these over top the TN barcodes on the big book band  

        2. no “b” is required for special barcodes.   

    3. Item on the fly box pops up :

      1. Go to File, then New Record, and then Bibliographic

      2. Scroll through to find ILS-item- on the fly and Select 

      3. Type in book title after the (ILS)….. 

        1. entire title not necessary if it is long

      4. Scroll through to find ILS-item-on the fly, Select 

      5. Save the record.   

    4. Change the due date to match the date on the ILLiad book band. 

    5. Repeat for each book

    6. Close Check out screen in Sierra when finished

  2. Taking items to their final destination 

    1. Place items on Circulation hold shelf under the patron’s LAST name. 

      1. Smith, Jane: will go on the “S” shelf

    2. browse shelf for any items already there for that patron and put together.

    3. Try to put in alphabetical order as well as possible with ILS items already on the shelf

      1. Wa comes before We….etc.
