Coding the Collections Tab

This process is part of the Dublin Core Discoverability Research Project instructions. It outlines the process for recording the collection name and number of items for each collection identified in the dataset.

Procedures

  1. Open the “Collections” tab in the Discoverability_CDM_2022Research Airtable base

  2. Select the view to “Sorted by Collection”

  3. Click on the URL in the “URL” column, this will open up the collection landing page in the Digital History Collections.

  4. Copy and paste the full name of the collection into the “Collection Name” column.

    1. Note: The collection name can be found at the top of the landing page

  5. On the landing page, click on “Enter the Collection”

  6. Look for the number of records listed underneath the collection name on the resulting page. The following image highlights in yellow the text to look for:

  7. Record the total number of records in the “Number of Items in the Collection” column in the Airtable base. In the example image above, this would be the number 15.

  8. Repeat until all collections are listed

  9. Record the total number of collections coded (each line in the Airtable base =1) in the “Intermittent Projects Numbers” column in the unit Statistics Airtable base. Be sure to select the project name in the “Intermittent Projects Name” column. The project is “DC Discoverability Coding”.
