Use the Microsoft Outlook Calendar app for Slack to respond to event notifications, get updates when event details change, and automatically update your Slack status based on your calendar.

\uD83D\uDCD8 Instructions

  1. Under Apps in the left panel, select Outlook Calendar (if it doesn’t automatically display, select the Add apps and then select Outlook Calendar)

  2. Select Connect an Account button (This will open a web browser asking you to "Allow" the integration.)

  3. Sign in to your Microsoft 365 account 

    1. Type in your email address (ie firstname.lastname@usu.edu)

    2. Select Work or School Account

    3. At the USU sign in page, use your A# and strong password to log in

    4. Duo authentication will be required

    5. Allow this page to open Slack

  4. If you would like your status to automatically adjust according to your calendar, turn on that feature.

Change Outlook Slack Settings:

  1. Under Apps in the left panel, select Outlook Calendar

  2. Select Settings

  3. Select the settings you would like to change.

Outlook/Slack Connection Features:

  • See your daily schedule and up-to-the-minute reminders and keep your calendar top of mind right here in Slack.

  • Automatically sync your calendar to your Slack status to let your team know when you are in a meeting.

  • See a daily summary of events on your calendar.

  • Get notified when an event is starting soon.

  • Respond directly to event invitations.

  • Get updated when an event’s details change, and change your response as needed.

  •  Join a Hangout or Zoom call directly from the calendar reminder in Slack.

Sync Status Details:

  • Your status will not include the name of the meeting that you’re attending.

  • You can remove or update your Slack status at any time – the Outlook Calendar app won’t override any status that you’ve set yourself.

  • Only events that you accept will trigger a status update in Slack.

  • Slack will only sync with the primary calendar for the Outlook account that you’ve connected.

  • If there are overlapping events on your calendar, Slack will set your status to match the event that’s longer or that starts earlier.
