Sierra Rapid Update (Merrill-Cazier staff only)

Rapid Update Process: can be used on non-MARC fields

Example:

Rapid Update after loading a record with Use Review File checked during the load:

  1. In Create List: Copy your Load file

  2. Create bib and item Review Files based on specific criteria in the Loaded review file; (item review files can then be created based on the associated bib review file)

Create List: create specific Review Files

  1. Place your cursor on the next Review File slot.

  2. Click on Search Records.

  3. Leave Store Record Type as Bib.

  4. Change Range to Review in the drop down menu on the left.

  5. Select your Load Review File

  6. Choose a distinctive review file name such as: Safari videos

  7. Example query:

    • Bibliographic MARC Tag 336 has "two-dimensional"

  8. Go to another empty review slot.

  9. Search Records. Change Store Record Type to Item.

  10. Choose the newly created Review File of your bibs.

  11. No query needed for the items; it will pull up all items that are attached to the bibs.

  12. Do the Rapid Update changes needed such as the bib material type or the item item type.

 

Go to Function: Rapid Update

Example of Rapid Update changes:

 

  1. Left hand box should say Review

  2. Choose Select Record Type to Modify: B (Bibliographic)

  3. In Review file: select newly created safari video bib file;

  4. type in desired change

    1. In Field: 30 (bib material type)

    2. In Value: u (streaming video)

  5. the selected Field & Value should move into the Current Command list

    1. You can add other commands, if needed

  6. Check that the field/values were entered correctly, then click Start

  1. A list of processed commands will appear in the History

    The Rapid Update was successful

A Rapid Update example of Item Record change:

Function: Rapid Update

  1. Left hand box should say Review

  2. Choose Select Record Type to Modify: I (Item)

  3. Type in desired change:

    1. In Review file: select your newly created safari video item file

    2. In Field: 61 (item type)

    3. In Value: 24 (streaming video)

  4. the selected Field & Value should move into the Current Command list

  5. Click Start

  6. A list of processed commands should appear in the History

  1. You can go back to the review files and check that the change went through correctly.

  2. then empty up review files to clean up, unless someone else needs to use them
