Wageningen eBook Packages: optional MarcEditing

 

  1. Save all records found for each title from OCLC to a save file

  2. Mark and export entire set of saved titles and name it Wageningen2023Aug; or WAP-2023Aug (or something similar)

  3. Open the downloaded file in MarcEdit with its MarcBreaker and MarcEditor:

  • 856 field:

    • Delete any 3 subfields

      • Tools; Edit Subfield Data;

      • Field = 856, subfield = 3

      • Action = Delete

      • Save after each step

    • Insert prepend:

      • Tools; Edit Subfield Data

      • field=856, subfield=u, field data=^b,

      • replace with https://library2.usu.edu/eval_dist/url856.php?url=

    • Action = Replace Text

    • Add z subfield:

    • Check for other z subfields

      • Delete z subfield

      • Tools; Edit Subfield Data

        • field=856; subfield=z

        • Delete Subfield

        • Action: Remove text

        • Then,

      • Edit Subfield Data ← this is behaving oddly; currently, must 1st add z subfield, then add the text

      • field=856; subfield=z; field data= Available online: click to view

      • Add subfield if not present

      • Replace Text

  • Check new 856 fields:

    • Edit; Find; Find what: =856

    • Find All

    • Pull on the window & columns to see entire fields, if all is well, continue

  • 949 Automatic item creation field:

    • Tools; Add/Delete Field

    • field: 949 field Data: \\$lcoonl$t20$nWageningen 2023 ebook package purchased 2023$zn

    • Add Field

      • $n has various phrasings, should probably always have Wageningen package with the year on the e-book package, and year of our purchase.

      • Details:

        • $l - item location coonl = Online (USU and USU Eastern)
          $t - item type 20 = Electronic Book
          $n - text for item record internal note free text field - does not display in public view
          $z - item code 2 n = Suppress (from public view)
          no call number or barcode fields for ebook records

      • Will make an item record like this:

  • Finally, add the usual 909 field

    • Field: 909

    • Field data: \\$aMelanie Shaw$b2023-08-03$cCOPY$dCMS STATS

    • Add field

    • Save again

  • Reports; MARCValidator

  • Then Compile file into MARC

  1. Go to OCLC Connexion and mark all records in the OCLC WAP save file and set holdings: Action; Holdings; Update Holdings
