Downloading the files (both JSTOR and ProQuest)

1. Download ftp software if needed: https://winscp.net/eng/download.php

   • All users

   • Accept all the defaults and lawyer repellant

   • and Open

   • Type in type in the vendor’s ftp site address and log in with user name & password:

     

2. open dda folder:

   • 

3. copy/paste files names to tracker: https://usu.app.box.com/file/1321317102096

4. download the both f1 and f2 of the latest files (check on tracker to see what has been already done)

5. I usually let the download go into my Documents file

JSTOR YBP DDA discovery

General rules

1. load weekly file of new records first

2. then load delete file (deletes come in separately via email-->check that date is later than weekly new files)

3. will in be same files as the ebc Proquest discovery records

4. filename will have .f2 at end

5. 001 will start with jstor

6. 856 field will have: //www.jstor.org within link

7. also 710 with JSTOR

MARC8, not Unicode (MarcEdit will usually deal with this for you)

• Open MarcEdit-->MARC Tools-->navigate to file in Downloads (once Windows recognizes Marc files you can just double click on the file & MarcEdit will open it)-->name it the same thing in Downloads (unless you want it on the Desktop)

• click Execute:

  • record number of records that MarcBreaker processed in the Tracking sheet (and remember it as you go thru editing and loading)

• Edit Records (will open MarcEditor)

Marc edits

delete 037 fields: Tools-->Add/Delete Field--> Field: 037--> Delete Field (number varies)

check for 830s needing deletion such as  =830  \0$aBook collections on Project MUSE. (But don’t delete real series statements): Edit-->Find: =830, Find All, scroll down results to check for vendor-type 830’s

Copy the text in the 830 $a for pasting open Add/Delete Field; Field: 830 Field Data: [copied text] Delete Field

you can double check results (if any) by redoing the =830 find all

856 field edits

910 is already correct

1. File-->Save

2. Reports-->MARCValidate-->OK-->look for structural problems

• to fix this one: Find: =082-->find error-->Jump to Record-->copy entire field and use Replace

3. Save

4. Compile into MARC-->I usually use the same name, but with Done added to end

5. Load into Sierra; Data Exchange

6. go to Create lists; Copy-->find Load;

   1. Check and test link as usual

7. Track in Box spreadsheet: https://usu.app.box.com/file/1321317102096

8. Statistics: record as batch record load in CAP stats table
