Art Book Room Cataloging and Art Cataloging in general

c. But items can sometimes bypass the Fine Arts Librarian:

If an item looks like it should be in the Art Book Room and/or needs preservation decisions, contact the Fine Arts Librarian for a decision, preferably with a photo of the item.

d. Material needing preservation will require cataloging before going to down to SCA preservation:

For ABR books, catalogers should use an envelope or paperclip to hold labels and barcodes until the item has been through its preservation process down in SCA.

III. Acq./CMS: Art Book Room material will be brought up to cataloging and assigned to the following catalogers:

  1. ABR Beat Material

    1. Will NOT be RFID tagged

    2. Will be put on a purple cart marked "Art Book Room."

  2. All other ABR Material

    1. Will be taken to SCA to the reshelf area and put on the Art Book Room shelf, to be checked for items needing boxing, enclosing, or other preservation,

    2. OR:

    3. Will be sent to Circulation, for tagging. Place all material on the Art Book Room shelf in Circulation

    4. Shelving in the Art Book Room will be done by Circulation students or SCA students, depending on the decision of the Fine Arts Librarian.

    5. ABR & Beat Serials that are received regularly will be gradually moved to being sent directly to Serials, who will check them in, monitor missing issues, edit holdings; and then sent directly to the Serials Cataloger desk/cart. Once done, the serials cataloger will take them down to SCA for shelving

  1. Give ABR curator/ABR folk some “Non-Rush Tracking from CMRS” slips.

  2. Create a spot for ABR material drop-off.
    ◦ We will need to document procedures in Confluence.

  3. Student checks in ABR stuff and adds to tracker.

5. ABR cataloger catalogs remotely or in person.

6.Student or cataloger takes ABR material to the SCA reshelf area on the Art Book Room shelf or Circulation on the Art Book Room new materials shelf.

ABR/Beat Serials:

  • These will gradually be shifted to this new workflow.

    • Regularly received beat mags will go straight to Serials

    • Serials will route them to the Serials Cataloger.

    • Cataloger will track, make items, labels, etc., and when finished, will take down to ABR shelf/cart.

Art Book Room & Art Cataloging in General:

  1. In General: place Beat Issues in Mylar envelopes. Attach all barcodes and labels to Mylar envelopes or the paper flags, never attach barcodes & call number labels to item: We also do not currently attach RFID tags to Beat Material flags.

  2. For Beat Magazines with several issues per volume (if they are in good shape): group a volume’s issues in 1 Mylar envelope, but stick a barcoded & labeled paper flag into each issue in the envelope:.
