If after searching for a record in Folio, we find that the Acquisition Folio Instance record is brief/incomplete, briefor pre-publication, or is for the wrong edition, then an effort should be made to overlay it with a more accurate record from OCLC.

Leave the faulty instance record open in Folio Inventory.
Open OCLC Connexion, and hit the F2 key or navigate to the Search menu.
`If If the piece dates past 1973, do an ISBN search. , if the wrong title comes up, or too many records, or If the piece predates the ISBN, search by a combination various combinations of title, author, publisher, and/or date.
Verify the OCLC record against the piece in hand. It must match all of the standard markers:
020 ISBN (if existent)
100/700 Author/Creator(s)
245/246 Title
260 or 264 Publisher and date
250 Edition, if any
300 Page enumeration and height* (*within
plus or minus 2 cm for binding differences)
other edition identifiers (such as 490/830 series with #, 5xx notes about the edition, etc.)
If a good, matching record cannot be found, flag the book for
original cataloging and set aside.
Copy If a good, matching record is found: copy the OCLC number from the upper left corner of the record.
In the Folio Inventory Instance record,
click the Actions drop-menu and select Overlay source bibliographic record.
Select 1-OCLC
WorldCat for the External Target field.
Paste the OCLC number into the bottom Identifier field.
Click Import. This will automatically overlay and update the underlaying MARC record.
To Within Folio Inventory, edit the MARC record, go to Actions,
Actions-->Edit MARC bibliographic record.
Edit the MARC record to our cataloging standards

adding local notes (590 if needed), deleting foreign language subject headings and non-LCSH in general (6xx), except for FAST headings, and for special art or SCA items special genre/format (655), and so on.
b. Save the MARC record (which will update the Folio Instance record to match)
c. This would be a good way to quickly update an instance, where OCLC members have improved the original cataloging record with better subject access, and other updates.
