Question
I purchased faster speed from my provider, then why am I getting the same speed at home?
Answer
You may have purchased a faster speed from your Internet Service Provider (ISP), but your modem may be older and not able to allow the faster speed. You may need a new modem. The new Internet speeds require what is called a DOCSIS modem. The 3.1 DOCSIS modems are the newest and allow very fast speeds. I have a DOCSIS 2.0 modem but it can only do around 200mg. The 3.1 can get over a gig. So you can get fast Internet from Comcast but you need the latest 3.1 Docsis to get the most out of the speed you purchase.

If you are renting your modem, contact your ISP to discuss your options. There is also the option of purchasing a new modem. Make sure you find out which modems your ISP supports.
